Future of Web Design… Visit to NYC, New speakers and the US Election!

I’m back from my flying 3 day visit to NYC. It was mostly work but i have to admit – some play. Having battled with the very hot late summer along with tropical storm ‘Hanna’, i finally landed back in the UK on Monday evening.

Venues

Whilst i was in town I visited our workshop and conference venues to discuss set design and logistics. The Radisson Martinique has some great rooms for the workshops and is right next door to Macy’s if you fancy doing a bit of shopping!

The Roseland Ballroom is just a short distance away from the Radisson and i have to admit not your usual conference venue but it is pretty darn cool! If you’re happy to be in a place where the likes of Nirvana, Madonna and the Rolling Stones have played then you are going to love it… it’s pretty rock n’ roll!

Whilst i was in town i also scoped out a few more party venues (watch this space), along with meeting one of our sponsors Sean who was a fantastic host and showed me around town.

New speakers!

Since the launch I have also been busy securing some great speakers, a few of which have been confirmed within the last week.

Whilst i was in NYC, I met up with a great guy called Nicholas Felton. If you haven’t heard of him he is responsible for Daytum, a site for keeping track of your life and is described as a “home for communicating your daily data”. Nicholas will be discussing the origins of Daytum along with his methodology behind it.

Another name you may recoginse is: Rey Bango, a member of the jQuery JavaScript library’s Core Project Team and the AMO Community Mobilizer for Mozilla Corporation. He will be discussing ‘How to take advantage of jQuery and other javaScript libraries for your design’ and will also be hosting a workshop on the 3rd.

I am also super excited to confirm that we have a pretty special panel discussion from Daniel BurkaLiz Danzico , Joe Stump, Ryan Sims and Chris Lea. They will be posing the question – “Designers & Developers: Why can’t we all just get along”. As a collective, these guys represent both sides and have years of experience building projects in productive teams. Within this discussion they will be discussing the relationship between designers and developers, where they see problems arising and they’ll take your questions on solving these issues in work. It should be really good!

There are also lots of other fab people joining us – so for full details on all of our speakers check out the speaker page.

Last chance for Early Bird tickets!

I also want to give you a heads up that ‘Early Bird’ tickets will be finishing at the end of this week. So if you would like to join us and save $100 then you should grab your tickets quickly! Click here

The Workshops are also selling out pretty speedily so you may want to book up as soon as you can to secure a space.

Election!
We are aware that the conference will be taking place on the day of the US General election. However fear not! We plan on having an area where you can keep updated on the days events. We will provide long enough breaks so you can check out what’s happening on the plasma screens provided. Don’t worry – you won’t miss a thing!

I have put some information together regarding out of state and postal voting just incase you are worried that you won’t get to have your vote! Please read on for details:

Voting for New Yorkers

New Yorkers can only vote at their designated Polling Station in their Election/Assembly district. Polling stations are open from 6am – 9pm. To find your nearest post click here.

For New Yorkers worried about making it to their designated polling stations, you may be eligible to register for Absentee or Early Voting. Click here for more information.

For more general information, important registration deadlines and for information on your local Borough Office in NYC check out: votenyc.

Out-of-state Voting

For those of you worried about leaving your state during Election day – there is an alternative way to get your vote in, which may actually be a bit more pleasant than standing in a queue for an hour!

Election coverage at the party!

We have a big sponsor lined up to host our party on the 4th, which will include coverage of the election – along with some other fab surprises! I’m just waiting on venue confirmation so as soon as this comes through, i will let you all know the details. I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic!
